Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said he was 'fond' of Mr Irwin and 'very, very appreciative' of his work in promoting Australia overseas. Fans left flowers at Australia Zoo after news of Mr Irwin's death was confirmed on Monday.

Been on news about memorial in Australia-thousands attended.Very moving when Bindi spoke of her Dad+poor Terri looked devastated.My heart goes out 2 his family.Was a huge fan. *
galvamp 8.06.08 - 03:21pm Nearly 2 years on its still seems unreal and upsets me.I hate people making jokes about it and the South Park show was sick.Was sad 2 read his father broken ties with the zoo apparently after a row with Terri.If was an amazing man who loved life,his family and all animals.If will be sadly missed by many whether we knew him personally or not. *
